Careers Related to the Environment

Before talking about the career we also need to know, in order to directly work for the environment you need to study environmental sciences. Environmental science is the study of the environment combining physics, biology and geography. Recently, we have noticed an increase in the demand for environmental jobs. In the past five years, there has been a 91% increase in UK environmental science job listings (Bower Collective 2023).
Let’s introduce you to some of the careers that are environment related.
Let’s start with environmental engineers. They are responsible for using environmental science principles to improve public health, reduce pollution and remove environmental hazards from the community. Their duties include collecting environmental samples and data, performing land assessments and designing systems to eliminate waste (Indeed). You may get the task to use specialized equipment to test soil, water and area of a construction area or you may get the task to improve waste management system design. You may also get the task to investigate, record and compile reports for environmental-related complaints.
Next, we have wildlife biologists or zoologists (one of the coolest jobs). They work for biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management and the preservation of ecological balances. They must have access to outdoor skills, critical-thinking skills, and problem-solving skills. Most of them are also required to get a master’s or doctoral degree in wildlife biology or some other related field.
Another job that is just as cool is environmental microbiologist. They study microorganisms and how they interact with the environment.
Hydrologist is another career that is related to the environment. They study water resources and how to reserve it for future generations.
Another career that caught my eye was an environmental lawyer. They deal with environmental cases and provide legal guidance. They advocate for environmental sustainability and compliance. Moreover, their average salary is about $135,000 per year in places like New York. Your salary also increases depending on your work experience. However, you must pass the Law school admission test (LSAT) to apply to law school to study environmental law.
Now these are some of the career paths that you can take to work for the environment. Obviously there are more, this list is just a beginning and the environmental sector is constantly evolving. More importantly, you don’t have to join a career path related to the environment to work for it. At the end of the day you can work for the environment from any career. The only difference is that these people are professionals.
